Hubert Bals Fund Plus selected our coproduction The Midfielder for realization. The Midfielder is the second film by director Adrián Biniez, whose awardwinning debut film Gigante also was coproduced by Topkapi Films and supported by the Hubert Bals Fund Plus.
The Midfielder is about Patón Bonasiolle, a 35 year-old football player who realizes his carrier has come to an end. For him this means the end of a world he has known since he was a child. During his last months as a professional Páton has to rethink his position in life in all aspects. Together with his wife he starts to make plans for a new future.
Adrián Biniez’ debut film Gigante was very succesfull and won several important international awards, amongst others the Silver Bear (Berlinale 2009). His second feature film The Midfielder (El 5 de Talleres) previously was selected for Boost! (HBF, Cinemart, Binger Film Lab) and the Cinemart 2012 in Rotterdam.
The Midfielder is an international coproduction by Mutante Cine (Uruguay), Morocha Films (Argentina), Pandora Film Produktion (Germany) and Topkapi Films (the Netherlands).
HBF Plus is a funding program from the Netherlands Film Fund and the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
