By January 8, 2025No Comments

Completely unexpected, Isabelle Rombauts is appointed as CEO of the family business Rombauts Pharma, a major player in the international pharmaceutical market. She soon encounters the consequences of serious mismanagement by her father and brother. And she is faced with a devilish dilemma: should she follow her own conscience? Or the interests of her influential family? A drama series filled with intrigue, power struggles and despair in the world of big pharma.

The eight-part series ELIXIR – a co-production from NTR, BNNVARA and Topkapi Series – is broadcast weekly from Wednesday March 5 at 20:30 on NPO 1 and will be available to stream in its entirety on NPO Start.

Dana Nechushtan (HOLLAND’S HOOP, DUNYA & DESIE, PIECE OF MY HEART) is responsible for direction. Dana: “For six years Maaik [Krijgsman] and I have worked on this series, which plays in a world that I – ever since I came in contact with it myself – have always wanted to make a drama series about: Big Pharma. Everyone has to deal with it and it’s all encompassing: it’s about life and death, the power of the free market and big money, and crime and misconduct at the top level.

ELIXIR stars Hanna Verboom as the lead, her first acting role after returning from a 5 year hiatus. Rest of the (leading) cast includes Jacob Derwig (THE TERRIBLE EIGHTIES, KLEM), Wim Opbrouck (IN VLAAMSE VELDEN, ARCADIA), Katelijne Damen (DE PATRICK), Walid Benmbarek (MOCRO MAFFIA), Tina de Bruin (MOEDERMAFFIA), Peggy Vrijens (JULIA’S TANGO), Teun Luijkx (A’DAM – E.V.A), Ferdi Stofmeel (FLOOR RULES), Roman Derwig (MAUD & BABS)  and Bart Bijnens (International Theatre Amsterdam)

The screenplay was written by Maaik Krijgsman (LANGS DE OEVERS VAN DE YANGTZE, MY FATHER IS AN AIRPLANE) in collaboration with Jaap Peter Enderlé (ZEVEN KLEINE CRIMINELEN, BROERS) and Franky Ribbens (HOLLAND’S HOOP, DIRTY LINES).

ELIXIR is the first Dutch language series realised within the New8 alliance.

The series was created with support from the NPO, NPO-Fund, Creative Europe Programme – MEDIA of the European Union, the Netherlands Film Production Incentive, Screen Flanders, Belgian Tax Shelter and Limburg Film Fund, in co-production with Menuetto.
