The awards for the graduation films 2016 of the Netherlands Film Academy (NFA) were announced during the presentation in the Eye Film Institute on Monday June 27th. This year, The Topkapi Films Fiction Award was granted for the fifth time.

Grijs is ook een kleur, directed by Marit Weerheijm (screenplay: Saar Ponsioen), tells the story of young Cato, who is confronted with her elder brother who comes back to live at home after a suicide attempt. Cato tries to get closer to her brother, but he doesn’t allow her to. When she doesn’t know what to do anymore, she unexpectedly meets a strange man with large, white fake wings.

The jury, consisting out of Esther Gerritsen, Benja Bruijning, Shariff Korver, Johan Fretz and Laurette Schillings, assessed the films critically and disclosing the following: “We grant the Topkapi Films Fiction Award 2016 to the film we consider to be the most balanced. The director has proven to be able to tell a story in an effective way. The acting of the main character was highly convincing; the camerawork was sensory with a couple of clever visual moments, that displayed the feeling of the characters in an intriguing way.”

Grijs is ook een kleur wins a visit to the Berlinale 2017.
