The film BENEDETTA, directed by Paul Verhoeven, will have its premiere at this year’s edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Our French co-production with SBS Productions would originally have had its premiere at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival, which was cancelled due to the coronavirus.
The film tells the story of a young nun, Benedetta. She joins an Italian convent and begins a love affair with another woman, while the plague terrorizes the community. The Dutch Job ter Burg, who also worked on Verhoeven’s film ELLE (2016), joined Verhoeven’s team once again as the editor of BENEDETTA.
Thierry Frémaux, director of the Cannes Film Festival, is convinced that the festival will take place in its original, physical form. The 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place from 6 to 17 July 2021, after having been originally scheduled from 11 to 22 May 2021.
