LEADING ROLES FOR CARICE VAN HOUTEN AND MARWAN KENZARI
Halina Reijn has started shooting her first feature film LOCUS OF CONTROL. In this directorial debut, Carice van Houten (Game of Thrones, Brimstone, Valkyrie, Black Book) portrays a psychologist in a penal institution who starts an affair with serial rapist Idris, who appears to be ready to return to society. The role of Idris will be played by Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin, Murder on the Orient Express, The Mummy). Esther Gerritsen (Nena,Craving) wrote the screenplay based on an idea by Halina Reijn. Jasper Wolf (Brothers,Code Blue) is the director of photography and Job ter Burg (Brimstone, Elle, Black Book) will be editing the film. The shooting of the film has started in Amsterdam and will take until the end of May.
For Halina Reijn, her directorial debut is a long-cherished dream come true: ‘LOCUS OF CONTROL is a mesmerizing story about a forbidden, impossible and addictive love. A love that nevertheless does exist. The first days of shooting were incredible. Carice and Marwan have an extremely powerful chemistry. They both are incredibly talented actors that have been developing themselves on international grounds over the past few years, I am proud and thankful to have them starring in my first film.’
Locus of Control is produced by Frans van Gestel, Arnold Heslenfeld and Laurette Schillings of Topkapi Films (Black Book, The Broken Circle Breakdown, A Noble Intention, Layla M.) in co-production with BNNVARA. For Halina Reijn and Carice van Houten, the film is the first co-production of their production company Man Up. LOCUS OF CONTROL is supported by the Dutch Film Fund, The Netherlands Film Production Incentive, BNNVARA and CoBO. Distributor September Film will release the film in Dutch cinemas.
