After it’s world premiere at the International Filn festival in Rotterdam (IFFR), the musical dramedy GOODBYE STRANGER is now playing in Dutch cinemas!

Popular newspapers Telegraaf and AD both reward the film with four stars out of five and especially praise the films’ creative and colorful production & costume design and hair & make up, “which make the film über hip”.

Also, both director Aaron Rookus as screenwriter Wander Theunis, are applauded for their art of capturing the zeitgeist.

Newspaper NRC even calls the film “a step into modern times for Dutch cinema”.

Main actor Martijn Lakemeier is also highly praised for this charismatic portrayal of playlist curator Paul, as is and “carefully selected soundtrack” (Nederlands Dagblad, four stars out of five).


Dream job, dream house, dream girl: Paul, acclaimed playlist curator at a major music streaming company, has gotten quite used to having it all. When a big-shot promotion abroad seems to slip through his fingers at the last minute, shaking his picture-perfect world to its restless core, Paul finds himself on a pop-soaked, soul-searching summer day’s odyssey across his adopted Amsterdam.

The cast of GOODBYE STRANGER consists of a mix of well-known faces on the Dutch acting scene as well as some fresh faces, including Martijn Lakemeier, Claire Bender, Jesse Mensah as well as Flip Zonne Zuijderland, Ariane van Vliet and Reinout Bussemaker. The film also features acting roles of musical artists Jake Isaac and Simon de Wit, also known under the artist name Blanks.

The film was written by Wander Theunis and it is the debut feature film of both Wander Theunis and director Aaron Rookus.

GOODBYE STRANGER was produced by Laurette Schillings, Arnold Heslenfeld and Frans van Gestel of Topkapi Films and was made possible with the support of the Dutch Film Fund (Screen NL and Production Incentive) and CoBO fund.
