Criminal Frans Weeling is forced to lie low for a while in a holiday park at the island of Texel. During his stay at the island he is confronted with himself and realizes that  in life nothing more is achievable for him, he is just a cog in the machine. This insight enlightens him, but also brings him in a state of total passivity. This passive attitude conflicts with his position as a leader in the criminal world.

Helium is produced by Topkapi Films and VARA and supported by the Netherlands Filmfund, Mediafund and the CoBO Fund.

The film is made as part of ‘De Oversteek’, a collaboration project by the public broadcasters, Filmfund, Mediafund and CoBO. Distributor Wild Bunch Benelux will release the film in Dutch theatres Spring 2014.
