Last week Felix van Groeningen (The Broken Circle Breakdown, The Misfortunates) started with the shoot for his fifth feature film. Belgica is – just like his last films – a production of Menuet (Belgium) and Topkapi Films (the Netherlands).
The film tells the story of two brothers, Jo and Frank, who are running a cafe together, the Belgica. The better their business goes, the more they lose each other…
The screenplay of Belgica was written by Arne Sierens and Felix van Groeningen.
Stef Aerts and Tom Vermeir play the parts of the two brothers. Other actors involved are Hélène De Vos, Charlotte Vandermeersch, Boris Van Severen, Titus De Voogdt, Sam Louwyck, Johan Heldenbergh and many others.
Just like in The Broken Circle Breakdown music gets a leading position in the film. The soundtrack of Belgica will be composed by David and Stephen Dewaele aka Soulwax aka 2manydj’s. They collaborate for the soundtrack with a lot of other artists.
Principal photography will last till mid-February. Autumn 2015 the film will be released in cinema.
The film is supported by the VAF Filmfund, Screen Flanders, the Belgian Tax Shelter, Medialaan, Kinepolis, Belgacom, the Netherlands Film Fund and Pyramide Productions in France.
