Coproduction THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW by visual artist and director Renzo Martens has been selected for De Verbeelding.
The film will be funded a contribution for realisation of a maximum of 450.000 euro by this initiative by the Netherlands Film Fund and the Mondriaan Fund, which is aimed at realising artistic films by visual artists who work in cooperation with film producers. De Verbeelding initiative emphasises projects that explore the boundaries between visual art and cinema.
The Film
On a depleted palm oil plantation in Congo, plantation workers film ‘The Gospel according to Matthew’. While preaching ‘Blessed are the Poor’, they push out rich plantation owners, reforest Congo and save the climate.
The films that have been selected for De Verbeelding will premiere by the end of 2021 and will subsequently be shown in Dutch cinemas.
