World premiere for Belgica at Sundance Film Festival

Belgica, the most recent film by Felix van Groeningen (The Misfortunates, The Broken Circle Breakdown) will have its world premiere at the American Sundance Film Festival at Thursday January 21nd 2016. It also made the official selection for the competition.

Sundance Film Festival is the biggest and most important film festival for independent filmmakers. It’s the first time a Flemish film is selected at Sundance and also the first time one has a world premiere at the festival.

Belgica tells the story of the brothers Frank and Jo who run a bar together. Within no-time their bar Belgica becomes the hotspot of the local nightlife. But the bigger the bar gets, the more the brothers seem to lose each other.

The main parts are played by Tom Vermeir, Stef Aerts, Hélène Devos and Charlotte Vandermeersch. The film was written by Arne Sierens and Felix van Groeningen. The soundtrack was made especially for this film by Soulwax.

The film is produced by Menuet in coproduction with Topkapi Films and the French Pyramide Productions. Belgica is supported by amongst others the Flanders Audiovisual Fund, Screen Flanders, the Belgian Tax Shelter, Medialaan, Kinepolis Film Distribution, Belgacom, Pyramide Productions and The Netherlands Film Fund.

Belgica will be released on March 10 2016 throughout the Netherlands.
